BLOG DAY # 26 in a day of my life. "WHERE I CAME FROM-A CROSS BETWEEN MAYBERRY & LEAN ON ME."

                                 "LITTLE MAN."     ALAN JACKSON

"I remember walking around the court square sidewalks----------------

                              "THEY WERE THE LITTLE MAN."

A little town in NW PA. That is where I came from. One main street-no traffic lights. Sort of a cross between MAY BERRY RFD & THE MOVIE "LEAN ON ME." Railroad tracks running behind main street. You knew everyone & everyone knew your name.

Every year it seems there was a flood- didn't matter if it was winter or summer!

" I GO BACK AND THE STORES ARE EMPTY----------------

"BOARDED UP LIKE THEY NEVER EXISTED----------------

                             "THERE GOES THE LITTLE MAN."

It was a fun town to grow up in- sliding on cardboard down Antenna - Blueberry hill. Sleeping out at night in the warm summer evenings and daring to raid the plentiful gardens. Truly walking 3/4 mile to school. Playing football at the park. Watching the TOWN TEAM play baseball and seeing Danny Fuss jack them out over the elementary school. The swinging bridge below the tracks. It was a little town.

"NOW THE COURT SQUARE JUST A SET OF STREETS-------

We had a high school- and there were teams and cheer leaders and marching bands!

"AND THE PEOPLE GO AROUND BUT THEY SELDOM THINK BOUT THE LITTLE MAN THAT BUILT THIS TOWN"

Today its sad to say- the little town that I knew is going away!

A little town that gave so much- many family's have gone away- yet history shows we did our way!

SOME WENT AND NEVER CAME BACK-A LITTLE TOWN IN NORTH WEST PA.

WE HAD PARADES-WE HAD PRIDE-WE KNEW WHO EACH OTHER WERE!

"BEFORE THE BIG MONEY SHUT THEM DOWN-AND KILLED THE LITTLE MAN, OH THE LITTLE MAN-HE HUNG OUT THERE FOR A FEW MORE YEARS--------

He was a barber-a farmer-a restaurant owner- he pumped gas and carried your groceries to you car- he was the town cop- he was your neighbor and friend! He was the little man-the little women- the kids you played with.

Then the destruction cam-the rain-oh the rain-when will it stop!

The ruins of many-the town that suffered-dealt a nasty blow!

"HE HUNG OUT THERE FOR A FEW MORE YEARS-BUT HE COULDN'T SELL SLURPEE'S AND HE WOULDN'T SELL BEER-NOW THE BANK RENTS THE STATION A MAN DOWN THE ROAD-------------

The brave have come and gone-the little town hangs on!

"AND THEY SELL VELVET ELVIS AND SECOND HAND CLOTHES-THERE GOES THE LITTLE MAN-THERE GOES ANOTHER LITTLE MAN."

Now we return every once in a while-it is different now-the stores are still here somewhat-many are gone- winter is sometimes harsh-summers are beautiful-springs flowers bloom-and yet the little man is gone.

A little town where I grew up- so changed yet so much like it was-still the neighbors-still the friendly smiles-those that I knew almost gone. A little town- MAY BERRY RFD-LEAN ON ME!

"THERE GOES THE LITTLE MAN-THERE GOES ANOTHER LITTLE MAN."
