BLOG DAY # 95 in a day of my life. WHAT-I watch FOX news! Am I serious?

Well, the cat is out of the bag so to speak! YES I DO! And for a reason or two. I use to watch CNN , I was glued to it during the first Gulf War. this was back home in Portville NY. I really praise our veterans, for they have given the ultimate that I shall be free to write as I do. Live where I want, and as long as I do not break the law, I am fine.

I WILL SHARE WITH YOU A PICTURE- TAKEN THIS PAST MONDAY- MEMORIAL DAY
From a little town in North Western Pa. where I grew up. It's not a place that captures your spirit like it did mine. You have to be kinda special to live there. There is no industry, only PEOPLE!

But, it shows a glimpse into small town USA and the pride of living in the USA! All walks of life-old-young - middle age.  IT IS WHERE I WAS RAISED-AND WHERE I GOT MY VALUES.

Everyday people- working everyday jobs- taking pride in the fact that they served our country-and served it with dignity! Just look at them, notice the man in uniform in the wheel chair. No one asked him to serve, he just did it. I THINK THIS PICTURE TELLS IT ALL!

And now, as Paul Harvey once said, "Here is the rest of the story!"

There was a time when I quit watching the news, just depended on the paper and the radio back and forth to work.

That all changed when we moved to Northern Va. in early summer of 1999. 13 years ago! And we were smack dab in the middle of the Political process of Washington DC. First six weeks in Alexandria where in the morning, I could get to work in10 minutes and at night , sometimes a hour going back to the apartment. Sherry had it worse, driving out to Dulles everyday until we moved to Fairfax, almost half way for both of us in opposite directions.

It was then that I started watching the news again. There was a new, at least for me, news program on in the mornings. It was on FOX news called FOX AND FRIENDS. What caught my eye(wink, wink) was the beautiful women, Juliette(sp) and her two male commentators , Mike and Kelly. She was stealing the show and it was funny and entertaining. I was hooked. My liberal side said, they finally elevated a women to equality on a NEWS FORMAT and I LOVE IT! I am and always have been for women's rights, I think it is a travesty that they are considered second and not paid equally as men!

Part of this story is the fact that I have many leanings to the left as well as the right. Going back to the picture above, part of my upbringing, was to always tell the truth and always do what is right.
There have been times in my life that I have broken those rules, and I regret each and every one of them, but I have also grown and learned from those mistakes.

NOW THE CRUX OF THE STORY-AS I WATCHED FOX AND FRIENDS FIRST-A NEW PROGRAM THAT COMES ON BEFORE FOX AND FRIENDS. YES, I AM A EARLY BIRD. IT IS WHO I AM-I TRIED TO CHANGE-BUT MY INTERNAL CLOCK JUST KEEPS WAKING ME UP!

This is what caught my attention- Mayor Bloombergs NYC-a law to contain the size of SODA!

Beverages
Everyone knows that soda is packed with sugar. We stacked up the sugar in some average sized bottles, plus 7-Eleven's super-sized line of Gulp beverages.

 Coca Cola
 12 oz (355 ml) Can
 Sugars, total: 39g
 Calories, total: 140
 Calories from sugar: 140*
 20 oz (590 ml) Bottle
 Sugars, total: 65g
 Calories, total: 240
 Calories from sugar: 240
 1 Liter (34 oz) Bottle
 Sugars, total: 108g
 Calories, total: 400
 Calories from sugar: 400
* You'll notice that if you do the math on
many of these, the total caloric value
is lower than the calories that should be
in the sugar alone, if sugar has 4 calories
per gram. We don't know if they used
"low calorie" sugar; we just used the data
on the nutrition label, and assumed that
sugar accounted for 100% of the calories.
This was common for beverages but not
other products.
Most people add at least some ice to their fountain drinks. We figured in enough ice to account for 15% of the cup's volume. Restaurants probably put in a lot more.

The sugar just keeps stacking up.

Capri Sun Pacific Cooler
Basically a bag of water and high fructose corn syrup.

Check out the note below. In the meantime, they have switched back to corn syrup. I wonder why they didn't bother to email us and let us know? Apparently the pouches are only 177 ml now, and so have 16g of sugar. They didn't email us about that change either.

To whom it may concern,

Your calories and grams of sugar with respect to Capri Sun Pacific Cooler are correct.  Your reference to High Fructose Corn Syrup is not.  There is no HFCS in Capri Sun as we reformulated the brand well over a year ago, moving to sugar and with 25% fewer grams than previously existed of HFCS.  So if you are going to denigrate our brand (no reference to the short list of ingredients without any artificial colors/flavors/preservatives), I would ask that you at least get your facts straight.

I know this is a lot to take in, but go back and notice the grams of sugar in each product. Take the grams and divide by 4. that is the number of sugar packs in each product- and you have to in some cases multiply by the number of servings!

32 0z. BIG GULP- 7 eleven- I see people all the time, morning-noon and night when I fill up for gas.
There is 91 grams of sugar. 22 and 1/2 bags of sugar in one drink.

Super sized. 44 oz. 128 grams. 32 bags of sugar in one drink.

DO YOU SEE WHAT HE IS TRYING TO DO? I AM NOT FOR WHAT THEY CALL AN NANNY STATE, but gosh darn it-it is leading our population straight down the path of obesity and DIABETES!

Now for the rest of the story. The two women, who are on this show, and I do enjoy watching and listening to them, as I can filter out all the garbage and come to what I believe is a logical conclusion, completely missed the above. Instead focusing on THE STOREY of Mayor Bloomberg trying to impose a law that limits the size of soft drinks thus cutting down the intake of refined sugars not to mention the artificial coloring, and additives such as sodium boszata(sp) that has been proven in the UK to lead to cancer of the liver and Parkinson's.

They pushed forth the story of his LAW to limit the intake as an infringement on the right to choose!

I BELIEVE THAT THAT IS A RIGHT! I AM NOT AGAINST THAT-BUT WHO DIRECTS THE CHILDREN'S CHOOSING? DO YOU THINK THEY CAN EVALUATE THE RIGHT FROM WRONG ON HOW MUSH SUGAR YOU SHOULD INGEST EACH DAY? OR HOW MUCH PRESERVATIVE'S ARE IN FAST FOODS AND STEROIDS?

The point being and the rest of the story, I think they missed it, not because they knew any better, but because they like a great many of the populace, are not informed. We do not teach this, we are a nation that is destroying our health and our children do not know any better.

I am not going to judge, whether Mayor Bloomberg is right or wrong-my agenda is to present to you what I was brought up to believe in. HONESTY-TRUTH -JUSTICE-AND THE AMERICAN WAY. THAT PICTURE SAID IT ALL. READ THE ABOVE AND SEE WHAT IS THERE- AND THEN YOU MAKE THE CHOICE! THAT FOLKS IS THE AMERICAN WAY!

HAVE A GREAT DAY-HAVE A GREAT LIFE-LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME-BE HAPPY!

  1. This is very good information Tom. Obviously you and your family have been able to make the right choice, and that is the point. It should be a choice. I believe the focus should be on the companies making these products. While we are at it, lets outlaw anything that is laden with sodium as well. Oh..and let's not allow any kind of additives to keep things fresh or any pesticides etc etc etc.
