Blog Day # 132 in a day of my life. History-back to the past-Pride -to the present & future.

Last night, Sherry and I traveled to Lake Holiday (DEB&MIKES) to babysit while they went to a rehearsal dinner. Now in our mode of transportation, we have Sirius-XM radio. I really like going through the stations playing different kinds of music. On our way at 4:40 pm with an arrival time of 6:09 pm, I selected the big band era of the 40's. That lasted for about 15 Min's and Sherry turned the Dial to the 5o's, which I really like because that was the start of Rock & Roll.

A staple of the time. JUKE BOX!

There were a lot of great songs from the 60's. So when she switched that dial, I was all in!

Dancing to 50s music

NOW IT IS THE BABY BOOMERS WHO ARE DANCING TO THE MUSIC OF THE 50 & 60'S. FOR YOU YOUNG UN'S OUT THERE, IT MAY SOUND SILLY AND NOT THE MUSIC OF TODAY- BUT- THIS IS WHERE YOUR MUSIC CAME FROM! WE OF THIS GENERATION, PIONEERED THE TWISTS AND TURNS OF TODAY'S MUSIC AND GYRATIONS!
Elvis   THE KING!

WAY BEFORE LABRON JAMES WAS EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT-THERE WAS ELVIS!
EVEN TODAY- YOU HEAR HIS MUSIC ALL THE TIME. JERRY LEE LEWIS, JOHNNY CASH, THE BIG BOPPER, WAYLON JENNINGS, WILLIE NELSON, RICHIE VALLENS. THE START OF ROCK! BILL HALEY AND THE COMETS. THE FOUR SEASONS. THEN ON TO THE MUSIC CHANGE BY FATS DOMINO, ETTA JAMES, THE FOUR TOPS, ALL THIS MUSIC COMES POURING OUT OF OUR RADIO ON OUR WAY TO BABY SIT. PRIME TIMERS NOW, LISTENING, SINGING ALONG, REMEMBER WHEN?

Café Fifties Fridays at the Elk Grove Library

YES, THAT WAS THE MUSIC THAT I LISTENED TO GROWING UP- I LIKE MOST MUSIC- AT LEAST WHAT I CAN UNDERSTAND! LOL AS WE GET OLDER- MORE AND MORE WORDS SOUND ALIKE. IT'S NOT THAT I CAN NOT HEAR, AS MY WIFE SAYS, IT'S JUST THAT SOMETHING SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING ELSE AND I HAVE TO ASK FOR THEM TO REPEAT IT! I AM NOT DEAF, JUST A LITTLE BIT MISUNDERSTOOD! LOL LOL LOL!

SO WHILE LISTENING TO THIS ERA, ALL OF A SUDDEN, I WAS REMEMBERING WAY BACK TO WHEN I STARTED WORKING AT 15. AND THE NAMES STARTED TO POP INTO MY HEAD. THOSE THAT I HAD WORKED WITH ALL THESE YEARS. STARTING 47 YEARS AGO! NOW, WHAT IS UNIQUE, AT LEAST TO ME, IS A LOT OF THEM HAD NICKNAMES, I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY GOT THEM, BUT HERE IT GOES!

MUSIC THAT GOT ME THINKING! TODAY- IT IS MOST ALL MEMORIES, JOGGED ON BY A NOTE OF MUSIC.

I AM VERY PRIDEFUL IN THAT I GOT TO WORK WITH AND MEET THESE PEOPLE. A LOT OF THEM ARE NOW GONE. BUT , I HAVE THE MEMORY AND THE FUN TIMES I HAD WITH THEM.

                                                   JOHNNY B GOODE--CHUCK BERRY

SUMMER TIME BLUES--JOHNNY COCHRAN     BYE BYE LOVE-- EVERLY BROTHERS

LUCILLE--  LITTLE RICHARD   AIN'T IT A SHAME -- FATS DOMINO

THE LIST GOES ON AND ON- I AM PROUD OF THE MUSIC I GREW UP WITH- I LOOK AT THE FACES OF THE YOUNG ONES TODAY WHEN THEY HEAR IT- SOME HAVE A LOOK OF WONDER AND SMILE- BECAUSE A LT OF IT WAS FUNNY- OTHERS A LOOK OF DISTASTE- AND I THINK- HOW MUCH YOU MISS OUT ON BY NOT KNOWING THE HISTORY OF MUSIC. AND IT GOES BLACK EVEN FURTHER THAN THE 50'S AS BLACK ENTERTAINERS USHERED IN THE FIRST OF THE JIVE MUSIC IN THE 30 AND 40'S.

SO THAT IS MY LITTLE JOURNEY I TOOK LAST NIGHT GOING AND COMING FROM OUR TIME TO BABY SIT. I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH A LITTLE TUNE- JUST THINK ABOUT IT- AND SING ALONG- BECAUSE I WILL!

  1. We too have Sirius-XM in both cars, but usually can't agree on on station. Terry likes the 60's, but I like the love songs. When I'm alone in the car usually listen to talk radio, so if I seem to be moving my lips while driving, I'm not talking on the phone, rather arguing with the host or hostess! Judy Mark
