Blog Day # 128 in a day of my life. Heat-parades-entertainment-it was the 4th of July-where it all started WILLIAMSBURG VA.

     Yesterday we arrived at 9:30 AM. thinking we would just check in at hotel- get our packet and explore. OUR ROOM WAS READY! When was the last time your room was ready at 9:30 AM.!!!

So, we checked in and moved all our stuff into the room, good thing, because it was hot! 98 degrees, no breeze, and high humidity.

Those poor folks in their uniforms and costumes. I was sweating in shorts-light shirt and loafers!

                    BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT-HERE IS WHY! KABOOM!




THIS IS WHAT WE SAW, SECOND ROLL RESERVED SEATS-IN FRONT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE-AND BEHIND US?    25,000 PEOPLE!

THEY MOVED OUR PICNIC SUPPER FROM OUTSIDE INTO THE CONFERENCE CENTER, ABOUT A 1/2 MILE TO THE ABOVE PICTURE. WE HAD ENTERTAINMENT FOR 1 1/2 HOURS-ALL OF IT STAGED AS IT WOULD BE 250 YEARS AGO! THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD-WE SHARED ONE BOX AND I TOOK THE OTHER BACK TO OUR ROOM.


AT THE END OF OUR SUPPER-THEY LED US OUTSIDE-AND WE WERE ESCORTED THROUGH THE STREETS IN PARADE FASHION-BY A 25 MEMBER FIFE AND DRUM BAND. ALL 2000 OF US! THERE WE WERE , MARCHING, WAVING FLAGS, TAKING PICTURES, WINDING THROUGH THE STREETS OF OLD COLONIAL WILLIAMS BURG- WITH 25 TO 30 THOUSAND PEOPLE WONDERING WHAT THE HECK WAS GOING ON. THEY WERE ALL LINED UP ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STREETS. WE WERE GIVEN SPECIAL WRIST BRACELETS- AND WE HAD TO SHOW THEM AT THE GATE TO THE RESERVED AREA OF 2000 SEATS. WHEN YOU ENTER SOMETHING LIKE THIS- HINT-GO TO THE LEFT! EVERYONE TENDS TO GO RIGHT!

WE WENT AROUND THE BACK SIDE AND STRAIGHT TO THE SECOND ROW-ALMOST CENTER STAGE. BELOW IS OUR ESCORT-TAKEN FRO OUR SEATS-AND BEHIND THEM THE VIRGINIA SYMPHONY!


WE HAD GREAT SEATS AND NO ONE IN FRONT OF US-THAT SEAT FOR SOME REASON REMAINED EMPTY!

Blog Day # 126 in a day of my life. Celebrating-Anniverary-Retirement-and Sherry's birthday-with a trip to Williamsburg Va. tomorrow!

     The last week of June and the first week of July, is and has always been a very busy time for us. First- we were married on June 25th. Now Sherry has retired July 1st. and her birthday is July 5th. And in there falls the fourth of July! As each year comes around to that time, we try to find something interesting to do. This year we decided to venture back into history and take advantage of a area only 3 1/2 hours away. Williamsburg-Yorktown and Jamestown! Yes, we will be leaving in the morning- and staying in historic old town of Williamsburg!


    We have been here before a couple times- first many years ago when the kids were small and I think 4 or 5 years ago. We always did the tourist thing- but this time we want to really explore. Step out the door so to speak, right onto the streets of Williamsburg. Feel the excitement and what it must of been like all those many years ago!

 


     I AM A HISTORY BUFF! Anything from ancient times , I watch and wonder how and why this and that was done. Above is the horse and carriage of williamsburg-one of the many there.


Yes, there are four seasons in this historic city-town. Although not much snow-it does come there !
  As does beautiful fall days!



        I love the quaint buildings- just imagine, these were built back in the 1600 to 1700 hundreds!


     The everyday lives of the people back in those days , were hard and full of labor.



     Trips must of been exciting and long- "ARE WE THERE YET?" Wonder if that was said?

     We plan to spend three nights and come back home on Saturday. Have to do the chores! LOL

     We will have a picnic supper on the lawn of the Palace- listening to the band and watching the fireworks. We are taking our bikes to explore and sneakers for run-WALK! I have an adversion to running! LOL



All in all, it will be a fun time-just the two of us. We are taking wine and tonic and vodka-limes.
We will explore William and Mary college. Do some shopping at the Pottery Barn.




The fireworks should be amazing- sitting right here in front of the palace in reserved seats.



In our married life- we have been many places- on our return trip for our honeymoon in the Dominican Repblic- we flew into Toronto Canada. Passing over the USA in the dark-we could see fireworks, as it was the fourth of July. Now we are going to be almost where this country all started those many years ago. Williamsburg Va.


     AS I STATED AT THE BEGINNING-I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE A HISTORY BUFF!

SO TODAY IS WAIT FOR IT TO GET OVER DAY-COME HOME AND PACK AND LEAVE EARLY IN THE MORNING TO VENTURE SOUTH. WE WILL SPEND THE DAY EXPLORING AND CHECK INTO OUR ACCOMANDATIONS. THEN TO THE LAWN OF THE PALACE TO HEAR SOME MUSIC-EAT SOME SUPPER-SIP SOME WINE AND WONDER IN THE MAJICAL FIREWORKS HOW LUCKY WE ARE. FOR WE HAVE EACH OTHER-AND IT WILL BE ANOTHER FOURTH OF JULY RO REMEMBER!  HGD   WE WILL.

Blog Day # 125 in a day of my life. Walk to Happy Hour!

     Now that we have the internet back-thank goodness we did not lose power! 105 degrees at 6pm on our walk to the Brambleton Town Center Friday night to celebrate Sherry's retirement. We had planned to sit outside, but it was so hot-that they shut the patio down. So I will catch up- as we did not get back on line until 5PM Sunday! Cudos to Verizon Fios- they called every step of the way and kept us informed!



On our way from Marcus and Tammy's house. They live one mile from us-just across the street from the Town Center. You see down here- when they build a community- they also build a town! Banks-groceries-dry cleaning- bars- everything you would find in a TOWN!





Hand in hand- Deb and Mike and Sarah already waiting for us to get there. IT WAS HOT!


         Ella and Taylor waiting to be seated! Taylor says all the time, "ELLA-ELLA!"
After dinner- we walked outside to the fountain in front of the theaters(16 of them) and the babies were in awe with the jets of water.





First mistake- Maddy leaning over to feel the coolness of the water-then both of the babies had to do that!

And of course grandma had to show them how!






                                       First Taylor- she is our little dare devil!

                                       Debby and Tammy- proud mothers and proud daughters!



                                                So glad they followed us to Northern Va. 12 years ago!



Now all three young ones are about to play in the jets of water- it was so funny and commical!

               Taylor was the first one to get her face wet-when it squirted her directly in the face!



                                      She laughed and laughed- the innocence of youth!




                                     Her dress is soaked and water dripping from her nose!




                                    She is always happy and smiling-it just captures your heart.

Cassidy - on the other hand - is a little bit reserved- but she climbs everything- you really have to watch her or she is 4 or 5 feet off the ground.




She always looks so serious- a mind of her own-Taylor will listen-Cassidy does what Cassidy wants to do- but then she has that funny little grin- and those eyes are to die for. INDEPENDENT but very cautious.



ELLA- what can I say about her? She is the one Taylor loves- always going around saying ELLA!
Ella has a heart of gold- always there- even if they weigh 1/3 of her wt. she is carring them!



Now we begin our walk back to Tammy & Marcus house- and of course- the twins take the challenge!


Grandma gets involved-only because Cassidy will not go to anyone else who is an adult-she adores her Grandma- everywhere Sherry is- there is Cassidy-either hiding around her legs-clutching her or saying UPPIE PLEASE!







Sarah leading the way- our little miss fashion- dramma queen- beautiful little girl! Full of energy. She will one day be a fashion model or consultant!

And then there is MADDY- she is so beautiful-both inside and outside- she leads by example-I NEVER WANT HER TO GROW UP!



OUR FIVE GRANDAUGHTERS-ALL HERE FOR WHEN GRANDMA RETIRED! PRICELESS!


ALL DIFFERENT IN THEIR OWN LITTLE WAYS-YET ALL THE SAME IN OUR WAY OF FAMILY LIFE.



EACH HAS THEIR OWN IDENTITY- EACH ONE IS SO DARN CUTE-AND THEY ALL GET ALONG TOGETHER- FIVE LITTLE GIRLS.

ELLA-ELLA-ELLA- THATS WHAT THE BABIES SAY OVER AND OVER- SHE CAN BE QUIET-YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW SHE IS THERE- BUT WHEN SHE LAUGHS- AND SMILES- THE WORLD BECOMES A LITTLE BIT BRIGHTER- MY LITTLE FRIEND-ELLA.
